Womens Black Hawk Basketball

Introduction

The Pea Ridge Lady Hawks sit at 15-11 overall and 6-6 in conference play, averaging a 73.3% win rate on the season. The Lady Hawks are sitting in the 5th seed for the 4A-1 district tournament and aspire  to make a deep run in the tourney. The 23-24’ Lady Hawks have many different weapons on the team, ranging from shooters, playmakers, and great defenders. The Senior Team Captain, Leah Telgemeier has the ability to do it all. In a recent interview with the Senior Guard, Leah Telegemier she explains her passion for the game of basketball and what legacy she hopes to leave behind!

Lacing Em’ Up One More Time

With the Lady Hawks possibly playing their last game together Leah Telgemeier explains her motivation for the sport.

“My biggest motivator has been my teammates and coaches. Just as much as myself, they want to see me succeed as well”, says Leah.

“Also just knowing that there is always more to accomplish has been a big motivator for me.”

Leah then reflects on her journey being a 4 year starter through the blackhawk basketball program.

“As a four-year starter my most memorable moment has probably been making it to the state tournament my freshman year. Although we have not gone that far again, having the opportunity to be with a new team every year, build relationships, and develop life skills are also moments in my four years that are memorable and important to me”, explains Leah.

Leah Telgemeier fosters a positive team culture and environment by “leading by example”, as she says.

“I pride myself on being a student-athlete. Maintaining the balance of your academics and athletics is a hard thing to do. I use the chance to lead in the classroom and on the court. “

As Leah approaches the end of her basketball career, she hopes to leave behind a “legacy of work ethic”, as she says.

“Never quitting and always giving my best in the classroom and on the court is a big part of my character and I hope that is one of the traits people remember when I am gone”, says Telgemeier.

To future generations of Lady Hawk Basketball players, “Enjoy the moment. High school moves so fast. Being able to live in the present and enjoying what you have at that moment is so special,” says Leah.

“Never take anything for granted. You were given the opportunity to do something you love, take that opportunity to your advantage and give it everything you have.”

The Lady Hawks will be facing off against Huntsville tonight at 4:00 PM (CT) @Gravette  arena in the District playoffs. Whether the Lady Hawks advance further into the playoffs or fall short, the whole Pea Ridge community is a proud supporter of Leah Telgemeier and the Lady Hawk Basketball Team. Good Luck!!
