Coach King looking at sky with Eclipse glasses

We're less than a week away from the Total Solar Eclipse on April 8th!

Here is some information that you might want to know regarding the Eclipse and our students' safety:

The Arkansas STEM Coalition has provided each student in the state with a pair of ISO 12312-2 certified glasses. Glasses will be distributed at each campus on April 8th before outside activities, along with a review of how to use them safely! It is critical to keep these glasses on to ensure ocular safety when viewing the eclipse.

When the eclipse is passing over Arkansas, all students in our district will have the opportunity to go outside and observe. This is only the third recorded total solar eclipse to pass over Arkansas, with the other two occurring in 1834 and 1918. After our eclipse on April 8th, the next total solar eclipse is not predicted to occur until 2045!

While this is such a unique opportunity for students to experience, we want to ensure all families are informed about the safety protocols implemented to ensure a secure eclipse-viewing experience for all of our Blackhawks!
