Pea Ridge Primary Launches Innovative Biking Program to Promote Student Activity

Written by: Jacob Ogburn (PRSD Media Intern)

The Pea Ridge Primary School is gearing up to launch an exciting new biking program designed to encourage students to stay active and develop essential skills. This initiative aims to counteract the sedentary habits associated with prolonged screen time by engaging students in a fun, physical activity that promotes health and wellness.

The program will feature 24 student bikes equipped with pedal conversion kits, helmets, a teacher instruction bike, two steel rolling storage racks, and curriculum training materials. This comprehensive setup provides everything needed to guide students from balance practice to independent bike riding in just eight lessons.

bikesFor beginners, the program starts by removing the pedals, allowing students to focus on mastering balance and coordination. Once they're comfortable, pedals are reintroduced to help them transition into riding confidently. Students who already know how to ride will continue improving their skills with guided practice.

The initiative will also involve community support, with Josh Johnson and members of the Pea Ridge High School Mountain Biking Club volunteering to assist. Their role will include maintaining the bikes and providing hands-on guidance to students as they learn.

This program not only promotes physical activity but also builds confidence and coordination, making it a valuable addition to the school’s commitment to holistic student development. The bikes have been ordered, and PRPS is anxiously awaiting their delivery so that students can get started!
